Dear NFB family,

It has been a rough and rocky first half of this year. As a lot of you know
I help care for my grandmother for almost 13 years. It was my honor to do
so. Some of you had the pleasure of meeting her over the years while we
lived together. When you were introduced to her I probably said something
like This is my Grandmother Dorothy Magness and you would have said
something like its nice to meet you Mrs. Magness and she would have said "
Oh call me grandma everyone else does". Grandma passed away April 14, 2010
at the age of 95. It was a peaceful passing for her.

A few days after returning from Granma's funeral I received test results
from a biopcy and was told I had skin cancer (melanoma) and would need to
have surgery to remove it and possible chemo following the surgery. I was
not able to share this with my biological family at the time because my
mother's husband (David) was dieing of Lukemia and I could not lay my
worries on them at the time. So what I did was turn to my NFB family with
my troubles. You were there for me some of you listened to me and then
prayed for me, some of you cried with me and some of you laughed with me.
There is no way to put into words how important this was to me at the time
and will always be in my heart as a treasured memory.

On May 19, 2010 David passed away. I left to join my mother in their home
in Arkansas. Again I must thank you for your thoughts and prayers for my
mother and our family during this time.

I arrived home Sunday June 6, to prepare myself for outpatient surgery on
Tuesday June 8th. I am propped up in my recliner with my foot on a pillow
to keep the swelling down. I am hobbling around but getting better every
day. I received a call from the doctor yesterday who informed me that I do
not need to worry any more he was able to get all of the melanoma and all I
have to do is heal up.

I am sending out this message to Thank You! For your thoughts, prayers,
cards e-mails and phone calls. It is truly the love and concern from family
and friends that make these life struggles easier to bear.
