Hi all - I just completed reading the July Braille Monitor which features an overview of our founding father, Jacob's ten Brook. This year would have celebrated his 100th birthday. It is rare for one person to change the destiny of people but Dr. ten Brook did so. He alone set out to make the difficult pardon shift in the 40's of redefining the rights and capabilities of the blind. His brilliance in both intellect and personality came at the right time for all of us to benefit from his positive view of the capabilities of the blind. The humble beginning of bringing a few others together in order to begin the journey towards full participation in the American dream began in the 40's and has increased momentum ever since. This issue of the Monitor provides an excellent overview of his life, philosophy and brilliance. Can you even imagine this tremendous undertaking he managed to spur onto what we have today...leaders rise up, often when we least expect but when the time is just right and Dr. ten Brook took on the huge challenges of changing what it means to be blind. Dianne
