Subject: [Nfbnet-members-list] Fwd: CRPD update, Senate will vote at noon tomorrow

Fello Federationist:

I want to again briefly update you on the latest actions related to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The Senate will be holding a vote on this treaty tomorrow, Tuesday December 4, at 12:00. Today John Pare and I attended a press conference hosted by Senators Kerry, McCain,, Harkin, and Durbin to build support for the CRPD. These Senators reittorated the need for a bipartisan vote in support on this issue. Senator McCain stated that those who are claiming that this treaty takes away parents rights were simply not accurate, as the treaty was based on the ADA which actually strengthened the rights of families. Former Attorney General Thornburg rebuked the claim that this treaty will take away American sovereignty as well. We must take this last chance to set the record strait about the CRPD by calling our Senators tomorrow morning, and urging them to support the CRPD during the vote at noon. Once again you may be connected to your Senators by calling the switchboard at 202-224-3121, or 866-727-4894. Every call will make a difference. I look forward to updating you on the vote tomorrow. Thank you all again for all of your hard work. Jesse
