Curb siderepresentatives are people who come out and help you vote if for some reason you are unable to come into the voting place.

What are curbside representatives?  I’m sorry to hear of your experience with the election commissioner’s office here in Douglas County.  We have found Jamie Shoe, our election commissioner, to be really open to communication and suggestions, and he has in fact spoken at one or two of our chapter meetings. He even invited us and other groups to come visit and give input the last time the voting machine reps were here showing their wares in preparation for bids. He has always been very solicitous of our input.

Susie,

The decision for the type of machine is up to the county, and not a uniform decision state wide. I have already tested and validated the machines in Shawnee and Leavenworth counties personally, and talked with the folks in several other counties a couple of weeks ago. Most counties went with the Express Vote that has the input pad with the arrows for the main navigation, select button in the middle and row of TTS options on the right side. Grievances needs to be targeted at each individual voting commissioner’s office, which Douglas has been aloof in the past when I reported access barriers to several locations and no curbside representatives on Election Day.

They got all new machines all over Kansas. There were not any keys at all. It was a touch screen.

What kind of voting machine is it?

I think one of the biggest problems at the polls these days is that the workers don’t know how to deal with the machines. Even when they get training, so few people who need them come in that they forget. More could use them, but maybe there needs to be more of a public awareness thing about them as well.

Hold on!

There is a keyboard they must pull out from under the new machines.  The keyboard has Braille labeled keys.  Some poll workers are not trained to locate this keyboard under the machine.  I’ve used them twice now with great success.

The voting machines are new and terrible. They talk on the auvio about arrows and it is a touch pad. I had people helping me and did not have time to work and work with it. The screen did not talk. I have Jacqueline and can’t write any more now. Just wanted to let you know.
