Good afternoon,

At our last chapter meeting, we introduced a new monthly agenda item in the
form of a member-led philosophy discussion. For our first meeting, I chose
"The Nature of Independence" by Dr. Kenneth Jernigan, which is a 1993
Dallas convention speech available in both audio
<https://nfb.org/Images/nfb/Audio/BanqSpeech/The_Nature_of_Independence.mp3>
and text <https://nfb.org/Images/nfb/Publications/convent/addres93.htm> from
nfb.org.

Because of time constraints, several people had to jump off the call before
we got into the real conversation, Thus, we are asking members to review
the article in advance, and come to the meeting prepared with any questions
or comments.

For March, Roshunda Holt will be leading our discussion of "Is there a
Right Way to Act Blind" by Andrew Leland, an article that first premiered
in New York Times Magazine. As a visually impaired journalist, he explores
the media's portrayal of blindness on the set of the hit TV show "In the
Dark". Below is the link to his reading of the article, which I hope you
enjoy since the text version is locked by a paywall.

If you have any articles you'd like to share at future meetings, please
e-mail me directly at andrea.travis at gmail.com.

Talk to you on March 9th and happy listening!
Andrea
