Good evening everyone,

Yes, you read right. We are unable to explain why, but the blind parents writes bill we thought was dead was approved by the Senate today unanimously. Your persistence in contacting your senators has paid off. The bill now moves to the House where it will be assigned to a committee for a hearing and, hopefully, further action. By all means, take some time to celebrate, while remembering that we have much more work to do before this bill becomes part of the body of Kansas law. As we celebrate, I think it would be a very good idea to contact your senator and thank him or her for helping to pass this very important bill. The positive relationships we are building with a Kansas Senate will pay big dividends as we continue to pursue our policy priorities to make a better quality of life for all blind Kansans.

You may recall that in one of my recent postings I strongly advised you to save your testimony as you’re prepared for the Senate Committee. If you have done so, then you are ahead of the game and will be able to resubmit your testimony to the house committee to which the bill will soon be assigned. If you did not submit a testimony before the Senate committee for whatever reason, you will now have a second opportunity to do so before the House committee. The more blind advocates they hear from, the louder our collective voice will be in advocating for this crucial piece of legislation. I will be tracking the bill as it moves to the House, so check your inbox at least daily for further updates. Again, congratulations and let’s keep fighting the good fight.

Best regards,
