Good morning, Kansas colleagues and cohorts,

We have been advised by our public policy advocacy team in Baltimore that senator Jerry Moran may be receptive tow cosponsoring the proposed Transition to Integrated and Meaningful Employment (TIME) act, which, if enacted would phase out section 14 C of the fair labor standards act (FLSA) Which makes it legal for employers of blind and disabled workers to pay less than full minimum wage under a special wage certificate program.

Call to action: You are requested to contact Senator Moran and urge him to cosponsor the TIME act when introduced in the Senate. You may email Senator Moran through his website at moran.senate.gov. You may also call the senators office at (202) 2 24-6521.

In your message to you might say the following:

My name is (your name), a constituent living in (your town) Kansas. I respectfully request a senator to support a bill, titled the TIME act once it has been introduced. The TIME act will put an end to section 14C of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which allows employers of blind and disabled workers to pay them less than the current minimum wage. I feel that section 14C is immoral and discriminates against blind and disabled kansans.

If you would rather state your request in your own words, just remember to adhere to the four peas of legislative advocacy. Remember, we are polite, professional, persuasive, and persistent. Last but not least, thank you for all you do and helping the Federation to help us all to live the lives we want.

Best regards,
Rob Tabor, | first vice president/legislative Director national Federation of the blind of Kansas
