good morning, Federation colleagues,

First, let me apologize for the delay in relaying this very important legislative alert from National. Please read it carefully and follow this up with contacts to both Senators Moran and Marshall to urge their supprt for H.R. 8884, titled the Removing Barriers to Employment for Disabled Americans Act.

Both Senators can be contacted by email on their respective websites which are
www.marshall.senate.gov and
www.moran.senate.gov

Now, to clarify, this measure is not the Blind Americans Return To Work Act we have been advocating for, but it is a very promising step toward ending the "earnings cliff."

Thanks in advance, and for all you do for blind Kansans.

Best regards,

Rob Tabor | first vice president /legisati?e direcor National Federation of the Blind of Kansas

REMOVING BARRIERS TO WORK FOR DISABLED AMERICANS ACT

Great news! The Removing Barriers to Work for Disabled Americans Act, H.R.
8884, was passed by the House on Thursday, July 23. This bill authorizes
the Social Security Administration to conduct demonstration projects,
similar to the one that would be created by the Blind Americans Return to
Work Act, within the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program.
The House bill has been transmitted to the Senate where we are hoping that
it will be passed via unanimous consent.

HOW TO TAKE ACTION

 	* Read the full legislative alert for further details [2].
 	* Call your two senators. To find the contact information for your
specific senators' offices, please use the attached Senate spreadsheet.
 	* Email your two senators and copy Jesse Shirek at jshirek at nfb.org.

SAMPLE SCRIPT

"My name is [YOUR NAME] and I want to urge [SENATOR NAME] to support the
passage of the Removing Barriers to Work for Disabled Americans Act, H.R.
8884, via unanimous consent. This bill will authorize the Social Security
Administration to conduct demonstration projects within the Social Security
Disability Insurance (SSDI) program.

An example of one of those demonstration projects is proposed in the Blind
Americans Return to Work Act, which, if implemented, would help numerous
blind Americans gradually phase out of receiving SSDI benefits. Please
support the Removing Barriers to Work for Disabled Americans Act."

We suggest a subject like: "Please support the passage of the Removing
Barriers to Work for Disabled Americans Act, H.R. 8884, via unanimous
consent"
