Good evening, Kansas Federation colleagues and friends,
Thanks to your vigorous advocacy, we landed the hearing we wanted on the above referenced NFB NEWSLINE® sponsorship bill. The hearing took place on Kansas day, January 29. Besides our proponent testimonies, there were two neutral testimonies, each from the state librian and the Kansas Corporation Commission. There was no opposition.
All of this noted, the House energy, utilities and transportation committee will take action on the bill this coming Thursday. We are advised by former senator Mary Ware and Representative Ohaebosim to redouble our efforts notwithstanding the lack of opposing testimony. They specifically advise us to call or email the Republican committee members. Although we conduct our policy advocacy on a bipartisan basis, it is my conjecture that Ware and Ohaebosim would not be advising us to focus our efforts solely on Republicans if they weren't completely assured that the Democrats are on board.
Now here is the list of Republican committee members with State House phone numbers and email addresses.

Nxeaow, here is a suggested script you may use when you contact these committee members.
Hello. My name is (your name), from (city or county) Kansas. I would appreciate a yes vote on HB 2180, which creates a dedicated fund from the KUSF for our NFB Newsline service, which I depend on to get useful information that would otherwise be inaccessible to me because of my blindness (or vision loss). Thank you for your consideration of this very important bill.
###
Finally, note we need to do this before 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
Thanks in advance for your advocacy for the blind of Kansas, and happy calling and writing.
Best regards,
Rob Tabor | first vice president / legislative director National Federation of the Blind of Kansas
