Good afternoon Kansas Federationists and fras,
Thanks to Mike Burgess, Director of Policy and Outreach of the Disability Rights Center of Kansas, I have more info regarding Attorney General Chris Kobach's decision to Withdraw our state from the litigation. As mentioned in my initial posting, a letter was written to mr. Kobach from a coalition of 22 disability advocacy organizations lead by DRC Kansas. Mr. Burgess states that after sending the letter, he received a surprise telephone call from Kobach who stated he would accommodate his request to withdraw from the lawsuit. Burgess was well acquainted with Kobach from his early political career in local government before he was elected Secretary of State.

Of course this is very good news, but the bad news is that the lawsuit is alive and well, with now six (6) stases remaining, down from the original seventeen (17).
Our number one goal is to reduce the number of plaintiff stases to zero. We have cause for hope, as Texas AGAIN Ken paxton is running for aUS Senate seat, which means he will vacate the attorney general position in January 2027. If his successor can be persuaded to withdraw from the lawsuit, the rest may fall like dominos.

As a final note, Mike has verbally accepted my invitation to be part of a presentation panel on legislative advocacy and process at our 2026 state convention. This will afford us a golden  opportuntion to congratulate him and to show our deep appreciation for his leadouship on this very important matter.
