Drawing from her Afro-Caribbean American Muslim background and six years living in Cairo, Egypt, Knight explores the expansive meanings of home as a space of spiritual refuge, as well as a space for fostering understanding and reflecting on calls for peace amidst global conflicts and oppression. Schliebener Muñoz examines how these films functioned as a form of soft power, enlisting children’s media towards the economic and geopolitical interests of the United States.
