Subject: Hopefully a quick question
Hello Melissa,
I had what I am hoping is a quick question. I am no longer signed up for the
Human Services list, however do hope to get back on it some day soon.
However, I was wondering if you knew the answer to this question... if not,
if you would not mind passing my email onto the list- and having them then
email me any solutions they might have.
As part of my dissertation, and maybe for my thesis and other papers... I
will need to interview a bunch of people in depth about their personal
experiences, viewpoints, etc... My professors have been mentioning that
there is specific transcribing software. The one she was referring to is
called Atlas, and it will take the transcriptions of your interviews that
you type up, and look for relationships. For example, if I were to conduct
an in-depth interview on the correlation and how feelings of depression are
prevalent among non-custodial parents... I would utilize Atlas to sum up and
highlight every time the word depression or sadness appears in my
transcriptions of interviews. The program will also then save the specific
spots where the "key words" were mentioned... and save them all into a
specific side file, etc...
I hope I am doing justice to what the official point of the software is.
I know there are a couple other versions of transcription software, however
I do not know if any of them are accessible with JAWS. I was wondering if
you might know, or if you might know anybody whho might know.
This will be a tremendous asset to me, when I am stuck transcribing thirty
different interviews, and looking for trends in them.
I am uncertain how I would even go about obtaining such software to go about
testing them with JAWS... so, really trying not to invent the wheel again.
Any suggestion or help would be amazing. I know you are very busy with the
State convention coming up soon. I hope it goes great, and really wish I
could be out there.
Thank you much for your help Melissa!
Warmest,
Janice Jeang
