Not sure I can help with the rest of this, but Myers-Briggs I
understand pretty well:
You'll get four letters from that test. I'll describe each one.
Apologies if this is stuff you already know.
First letter: E means Extrovert, I means Introvert. My view of this
one is that it relates to where you get your energy, not what you do
with it. In other words, I've met some very outspoken introverts and
maybe a few quiet extroverts, but the E/I should tell you where you go
to recharge.
Second letter: N means intuitive, S means sensing. This relates to
what you do with information. An intuitive person takes what he/she
sees and tries to construct a larger picture out of it. A sensing
person doesn't try to assign any extra meaning to what is directly
observable. A defining question for this one, from the version of the
test I took many years ago, is, "Do facts speak for themselves, or
illustrate principals?" The first choice is in favor of sensing, and
the second, intuitiveness.
Third letter: T means thinking, F means feeling. This relates to what
forces determine your decisions and reactions to things. A thinking
person will mostly use logic to make choices, whereas a feeling person
will use more emotions. (Interestingly enough, my own scores on this
test varied rather markedly on this one over a number of years.)
Last letter: J means judging, p means perceiving. Of all the
letters, I'm least clear on this pair. I believe these relate to
whether you prefer to close out things or leave them open-ended and
fluid.
For the record, after taking versions of this test several times over
several years, I refer to myself as an xNxJ, meaning the E/I and the
F/T fluctuate from time to time, but the other two don't. I actually
came out a very strong N, as I recall. Perhaps this is why I'm a
programmer that hangs out on a human services list, instead of a human
services person that just uses programs. :-)

Hi,
I am getting my BA in Linguistics. I don't know anyone other than my
professors and the grad students in the field who love it. I thought it
would be enjoyable and it has been, but not that much... My favorite course
I took was Psychology of Language. I thought about being a SLP because I
figured it would be more specific and more hands-on. I am an active learner
and so far I haven't found anything that truly is activity related. I have
taken 3 Speech & Hearing Sciences courses thus far for te grad program, but
I've gotten C's in all of them... At least I think I will be getting a C in
the one I am taking now... I love helping people and I want a career doing
exactly that. I would love to give to those who have nothing from homes to
helping them rebuild their lives after traumatic/tragic situations. I am a
people oriented person and love to be around people. I love working in an
office setting, but at the same time I love to travel. What kind of career
combines all of these? I took the Strong Interest Inventory and Myer's
Briggs tests and I couldn't fully understand the results and the person who
went over them with me didn't really help. I asked someone at the career
counseling office at my University to help me with my resume, and I got
nowhere with that either... I don't know where else to turn... I don't want
to follow the crowd. Hence why I chose fields that aren't (typical" for
blind people to get into... At least that I know of... I know of one
Linguist and he is an awesome person! I have learned that Linguistics... is
full of research... I am not one for research... I like learning new things,
but I like to learn via experience, not reading a bunch of jargon-filled
articles and books... Anyway, I am rambling, but I hope this helps explain
everything I can...
Thank you for your help.

Hello all,
I have posted to this list previously requesting Speech-Language
Pathologists, and now I post requesting ideas for other career options. I am
now considering the fields of Social work, and TVI. I know to be a TVI I
need a background in education which would require me to get a Masters in
Special Education. Are there other ideas out there? I am young, confused and
unsure of exactly what I want to do now that I am a month from graduation. I
need help and I am reaching out to my fellow blind citizens for help. Please
let me know of any information I can check out. I will keep looking at the
AFB Career connect as well as look into the different programs around my
state.
I appreciate anyone's assistance and information.
Sincerely,
Tara
