Departmental Overview 
The Disabled Students' Program (DSP) is recognized for its commitment to
ensuring that all students with disabilities have equal access to
educational opportunities at UC Berkeley and helps students to achieve
academic and personal success through its programs. DSP offers a wide range
of services for students with disabilities. These services are individually
designed, and based on the specific needs of each student. With more than
850 students enrolled in our programs, a staff of over 30 FTEs, 400
independent contractors, and over a dozen specialized limited staff and
students, DSP is the second largest amongst the other Disabled Student
Service Programs in the entire UC system, and the Workability IV Program
(WAIV) is just one of the many unique programs offered at DSP. 

The Workability IV Program is a DSP initiative providing employment
placement services for DSP students with disabilities who are also
registered clients of the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR).
The purpose of the WAIV program is to assist eligible graduating DSP
students with their employment quest. Each year, approximately 50-80
students with disabilities are counseled and assisted with their job
searches, including locating and reaching out to potential employers for
their employment. This incumbent is the coordinator of the WAIV program and
is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing programs and
activities focused on achieving eligible students' career placement. This is
a new position funded by the State of California Department of
Rehabilitation and has been recently expanded to include an internship
program, higher placements expectations and a comprehensive employment
education program. 

Responsibilities 
The WAIV Program Coordinator is responsible for securing the cooperation of
appropriate employer organizations, both for placements (internships and
permanent hires) as well as for promotional efforts supporting this new
program's success. Some of the key areas of responsibility include: 

. Plans, develops, and continuously improves program design 
. Implements core employment program -- job development, job placement for
both internships & permanent placements, employment accommodations support,
follow-along support, and formal employment education curriculum (enhance
student employment, expectation and acumen, soft skills, job seeking skills
as well as interview/presentation skills to potential employers). 
. Develop student demand for these services (their employment acumen) 
. Develop a new soft skills and job seeking skills training program for
students 
. Analyze program participation, including DOR Individual Plans for
Employment (IPE) 
. Identify workplace accommodation strategies and needs of program
participants 
. Work with program participants and their DOR counselor to design
internship prospects and employment placements that match their IPE plans 
. Coordinate salary/payment plans for paid internships with program
participants' respective DOR rehabilitation counselors 
. Prepare students for their interviews/presentations to potential
employers, and assist students with placements in both internships and
permanent jobs 
. Counsel students and employers with follow-along supports, as needed 
. Market students to potential employers and engage employer support for
this program 
. Work with DOR staff to gain their participation under the new paid
internship policy 
. Develop and maintain necessary reports and financial records, and devise a
strategy for documenting the key elements of this new program model in order
to effectively disseminate this information to other Universities across the
state and nation. 

The WAIV Program Coordinator is also expected to apply advanced professional
career counseling concepts, conduct strategic needs assessment of gaps in
the career program, and plan and develop program improvements and new career
services to help students/alumni in career planning, career goal setting,
and improved search competencies. To be successful, this incumbent must
research, plan, and develop relationships with potential employers,
graduate/professional school admissions representatives, academic
departments, and student organizations to meet the career development needs
of students and/or alumni. They must provide career counseling for
populations that require special expertise, such as Ph.D.s and/or J.D.s, and
develop comprehensive employment education curriculum based on the needs of
each individual student participant. 

Required Qualifications 
. Strong knowledge about general employer recruiting and hiring practices,
expectations, concerns, and needs in general as well as "how to" navigate
that system on behalf of people with disabilities. 
. As it relates to people with disabilities, expert knowledge of career
development theories, adult development theory, soft skills theory,
counseling processes, career decision making, learning styles, disability
accommodation strategies, and job search techniques. 
. Knowledge of employment placement program design and how to evaluate and
disseminate best practices to employers, agencies and other Universities. 
. Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty
needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends. 
. Strong presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills, and
organization skills. 
. Ability to work with and relate to people from diverse cultures,
especially people with disabilities. 
. Proficient with use of computer software applications and web-based
systems and familiarity with assistive technologies. 

Preferred Qualifications 
. Advance degree in related area and/or equivalent work experience/training,
preferred. 

Salary & Benefits 
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience: $57,000 - $71,000
