Quinto,
Thank you! I'll intro myself later btw.
I'm on here to learn about professions helping people; I'm not employed yet
but I do have a BA degree.
I'd love to work with people but most jobs require a masters; I can see
myself going to get another bachelors but not a masters; too much research
and work not to mention grad school is way way too competetive and
expensive.
My friend is very bright but people discouraged him. What sort of therapist
are you and what do you play? for music?
I told my friend some of the things you just said.
I really hope he gives music therapy a shot in grad school; those in
undergrad discouraged him.
How about I pass along your info if he's interested, okay?
Ashley

hi Ashley,
while I'm not a music therapist. I am a therapist and musician. Those
concerns of being able to read body language always come up by sighted
therapist but, that’s just b/c they have been trained as a sighted
therapist. If you could see of course you would focus on the obvious visual
cues. However, sighted therapist don't place great emphasis on auditory cues
such as speech tonality, brief pauses, suddle sighs and speech rate.
therefore, I see them being impaired as well. Body language might reveal
things like anxiety, apprehensiveness, shamefulness, frustration... which
are things you can also deduce from conversation or from natural auditory
cues previously mentioned. I wouldn't mind being a mentor to your friend
even though I am not a music therapist but I am a therapist and a musician
if that helps.
Quinto
