[humanser] Accessible Technology Delay inInternship and Emplyment

I just downloaded the demo Window Eyes. It does seem really good, but there
are still a lot of steps that need to be taken to make it work with a remote
desktop. It has to be installed on both the client (my) computer and the
host (the agency's) main computer. It's still a matter of needing the IT
department at the agency to install the technology, which they are not
really doing, from what I can tell. I'm going to call GWMicro on Monday,
though, and ask them if there's any additional cost to get the RDS access.
If not, it may be worth buying. Thank you so much for the suggestion, JD!
I am still concerned about how to navigate this kind of issue in the future
with employers. I'm always going to need a screen enhancer and screen reader
to be installed in order to use a computer so I can do the necessary work. I
can't imagine that potential employers would accept the idea of my working
for their agency but not being able to do work for days or even weeks until
their IT department gets all my technology installed.
How have others handled this?
This is all great information. Thank you so much, everyone, for the support!

Though I am a jaws user, Window eyes is a fantastic program; it is
definitely worth giving them a try.

Hi:
Just catching up on some older email.
I believe that GWMicro's screen reader, Window-Eyes will recognize and work
in the situation you describe. It would be worth your while to give them a
call to determine if this is so.

Thank you for that, Dotty. And thank you to all those who responded- I
really appreciate the support.
A huge challenge with getting my technology up and running is also that the
agency uses remote desktops. JAWS does and other screen readers do not work
with it because, from my understanding, remote desk tops are based off of a
projected image from a host computer. It's kind of confusing to me, but I
know JAWS won't work with it unless you buy the remote desktop access
feature from Freedom Scientific. I don't know if the internet screen reader
Dotty sent would work, though. It would be so exciting if it did! I will let
you all know!
Best,
Alyssa

Hello, Elyssa,
Try this:
Go to "run" and type:
http://satogo.com/.
http://satogo.com/
which will get you to System Access's System Access to Go, a free
internet-based screen reader. This works until you close the internet.
