I am learning it in my early 40's. I can relate very well to what you are
posting here. Memorizing and writing notes in Sharpie is tiring and if you
drop them.....NIGHTMARE! I’m glad you shared this concern. It's taken me
several years to develop speed and reading comprehension with grade 1
braille. There were a lot of other factors that made this take forever but
I truly recommend going to Hadley's classes and giving it a shot. They have
remodeled the curriculum and it is more understandable, gives practice
reading and writing from the beginning and teaches tracking patterns before
anything else. The teachers are wonderful and supportive. I tried with
the NFB center in MN but the teacher was ineffective at that time.
Consider learning from them and let me know. They are wonderful!
I am in the process of labeling files, file cabinets and so on to attempt
to get organized. It's better than sniffing to find what you want. I'm
going to put braille labels on resources and more so I don't have to
strain my eyes any more than necessary. Grade 1 will allow me to do this.
I am writing notes to myself like doctor appts, phone messages to read back
to my hubby, and grocery lists. Even my passwords are going into braille.
If a robber canread that, they are pretty amazing!
You can do it! Call me and leave message. We can talk about this more. I
don't pick up on the first ring so please leave a message.
