Hi Janice:
I'm sure no insurance professional, but ...
It is rare that someone in our profession is actually sued, however it is
good to have protection.
There is no reason to be insured if you are not seeing clients.
Some agencies require a person to get their own insurance, however most
provide blanket coverage for all their professional employees.
So, I would not renew at this time. Becoming insured is fast and starts as
soon as they receive your money.

Subject: [humanser] Question about Professional Liability insurance
Good Afternoon Everyone,
I hope that everyone is staying cool in the heat and humidity of summer.
My professional liability insurance with HPSO will expire on August 14.
Because I am a "New Professional" they raised the price from the student
price of $39 to $114.
I had originally had to acquire my own liability insurance as part of
doing my counseling practicum/internship during my final year of
school. I paid it my first year out of school even though I am not
currently working as a counselor.
Although I hope it will be soon, since I take my State Ethics
examination later this month provided the NFB legal department can
assist me with accommodations. Then I will have my Licensed Graduate
Professional Counselor certificate that will make me more marketable.
Do you all think I should renew my liability insurance despite not
having a job yet? Someone told me that I would be covered under an
agency liability insurance, if I am hired by an agency so I would not
need my own unless I am in private practice, which I can not do until I
complete my 3000 supervised clinical hours.
Janice
