Hello Everyone:
My name is Renee Pavlus. I receive emails from this division on a
regular basis, but do not necessarily respond.
However, last year, I did tell the group that I am completing a 60
credit Masters degree (CMHC), at Argosy SLC. I have completed all of
the course work accepting the last three courses
(Practicum/Internship), which will be related to filling 1000 hours in
order to graduate.
Unfortunately, I have had one problem after another since this past
August meeting this obligation. However, it is coming around, and with
prayer and a little luck my placement with the counseling center at
Utah Valley University will finally begin in May 2015. I have or will
be waisting eight months of valuable time before this can happen so I
can graduate and sit for the CMHC licenture exam; another issue to be
delt with...in the future.
Most of the conflects involved the contract revissions between Argosy
and UVU, which had very little to do with me as a intern who is blind.
Infact, my adaptive equipment, the office I will be practicing in, and
supervision couldn't be more ready and excited to take me on. Knowing
this is certainly uplifting on so many levels.
I am so excited because I will be attending the NFB convension in
Florida this year; the first convension for me since 2009. I am
anxiously waiting to connect with the professionals in this division.
Secondly, As noted throughout this email, my spelling is very poor.
Does anyone know how to spell check Google emails? If not, would you
recommend any advice? I can spell check MS Word, and even then I am
not sure that I don't make some mistakes with like sounding words,
(bye, buy, by), for example. Of course will never give uppp. As you
all do, I want to be able to write a document in a professional
manner.
Anyone know of where I can get a braille speller that isn't too
expensive? I had a (twenty thousand word) speller in braille years
ago, but from moving around have lost it. It is the simple words, you
can mostly look up the difficult ones. Others do judge us by our
spelling and such, and being blind, I do not want to give
professionals in my field reason to not trust the quality of my work.
Mary, I do want to get involved with the organization on a daily
basis. What can I do?
Thanks to all who have reached out to me, following my professional
and personal journey the past months. Not one hundred percent, but UVU
looks as ready as it will be; just waiting for the affiliation
contract between the universities to be signed and noted. If it
doesn't happen I will have to locate another intern position as soon
as possible.
This one is perfect for my situation, my personal and professional
needs, due to the fact that it is only a few miles from my home. The
hours are flexable, and the supervision is so excited to work with me.
How often does this happen...
If there is anything I can do for the organization, please email me,
or call me at:
385-223-8348
With thanks as I look forward to meeting in Florida this July.
Renee M Pavlus
P.S...anyone like me dealing with diabetes. I have been newly placed
on insulan, and am wondering how you all function working a full day
dealing with your medical issues. Some advice and tips wouldly surely
help.
