I am a psychotherapist in practice for the past 30 years in California. You do not need CPR and you most certainly do not need sign language. Go for it – Karen

I had to take it when I was a summer camp counselor and it was really a struggle for me, so if I choose mental health counseling, can I avoid the CPR? Also, will I need sign language? I'm totally blind, so these two classes would cause me a lot of stress. Therefore, for those of you who are counselors, will I need to go through CPR again or can I get an exemption because of my blindness? I would not go into a hospital to practice, maybe I would open my own practice or work for an agency that specializes exclusively in mental health.
