[humanser] Culturagram

Hello,
I too love the genogram and the way that people feel when they see
the connection. It is a very visual too that can have an impact.
One way that I get around the visual box is to use Tinkertoys. You
can use braille labels stuck in the slots of the pegs and the rounds have
many ways to connect to other rounds. Give it a try!

Regards,

Personally I love the genogram. It is a visual image that captures family
function & disfunctions in a manner that has maximum impact on some
individuals and families.

I cannot do it myself and often have social work or mental health counselor
student interns do the graphics. They come out oddly as free-hand pictures,
but every patient has desired to take it home, usually hanging it on a wall.

When I have no student to do my graphic work I have used the patient her/him
selves to do the exercise.

Years ago I invested in a software program that drew the genogram but was
never able to devote the time to make it work smoothly enough to be
practicle for me.

Just my thoughts.

Hi all,

I had to draw a genogram for one of my social work courses at Rutgers.
I first wrote out all the info about my family. Then, out of the goodness
of her heart, one of my classmates from another class volunteered to draw
the genogram for me! :) I don't mean to brag, but, when my friend brought
my genogram, on a big posterboard, to my class for me, one of my classmates
said my friend's drawing looked better than hers!

Looking back on it, I'm sure I could've asked the professor if I really had
to draw it, since I'm blind, or if my outline of my family info would've
sufficed. Depending on the purpose of the visual aspects of your assessment
tool, this option might be helpful.
