[humanser] Quickly finding the information in the DSM-v

Hello all,
I would like to suggest an option, especially for students, regarding the DSMV. Before I do, I want to stress that I think that however you can access the DSMV best for you is the way you should do so. The options that we all have increases by the way that we share the method that we access.
If you are required to use the DSMV (as all in a graduate program are), then you can request an alternative format to be provided to you by your Student Disability Services. You will need to purchase the DSMV first and provide them with a receipt. The SDS will then contact APA for a PDF copy. This can take time, so do not delay if you need it soon. Even with the rapid email system and electronic transfer of files, there is still only one person at APA that handles this.
The APA needs to know that we are asking for this document to draw attention to the difficulty that we are having with equal access. This is an essential document to the counseling professional, and we should be able to enjoy equal access to it!
I am excited about this topic, and am glad to see so many of my colleagues pushing through this barrier.

Regards,

Hi JD,
I need that book for my class. Can you send me a copy of the DSM 5 please?

For a Daisey version of the DSM-5, go to:
BookShare.org

For a MS Word version, ask me. I will provide it in chapters.

Good luck.

I'm late to this discussion; please forgive me. How would I get a word
version. I'm about to use a pdf version I just got due to some trouble
obtaining the book.
Justin.

Hello,
I know that we had some discussion a while back on this list and
there were several different methods used.
I believe that JD has a word file that he uses to separate the
categories and this makes searching a little easier.
I use the PDF offered by the APA along with Locklizard program that
comes with it. It is broken down by sections and searching is a little
easier than a full txt or pdf file.
There are numerous creative ways to use the DSMV out there. I hope
that this opens another discussion as there have been new members added to
the list.
Let's hear it people!

Hello,
I went to Bookshare as I am a member of that site and download it there. I
have a program that was really hard to find called wintrance that translates
braille files into TXT. Although depending on what technology you have the
braille file would also work just fine.

Hope this helps
There is also an iPhone app, but I have not tested it with voiceover.

Thanks

Beth
