Paulette - Voice Dream Reader is an app that reads word documents, PDF's and now DAISY format. It is available for iPhones and iPads and recently became available for Android devices. There is also an e-mail reader and a writing program with it which I have not tried yet. You can download books from Bookshare directly into Voice Dream reader and then listen to them on your iPhone. Its pretty straight forward. You can download different voices. There are good speed controls. There is also a pronunciation dictionary so you are not stuck with a mispronunciation. (eg MR# which is the medical records number was being read as "Mr. pound sign" and I have now managed to change it to M-R- number !! Small victories.)
I think this app is only about $10. I use it to read most documents. I just e-mail them to myself - pick it up on my iPhone and I can listen to it anywhere.
