[humanser] Job interviews

Hi Rebecca,
Three months ago I was asking very similar questions. Although I am not working as a therapist I wondered about accommodations went to ask and what was reasonable. The advice that I received from people on this and other and FB list recommended that I talk about what I can do and how I do it and not to start asking about accommodations.
I think I understand what it's like to function with different levels of vision. I primarily rely on Joss and struggle to read when using a close circuit television. Since I've started working I find I use braille on almost a daily basis. This does not mean I am highly proficient; I am not. I use clear index cards to make labels for office files and I use the close circuit television to write print on the files so other employees can read the file and I can retrieve it without having to ask for unnecessary help
I will try to write more on this topic at another time. It's late and I have to get up early.
From, Lisa Irving

As my vision has declined I am starting to learn that there are certain things I used to be able to do but now I'm having trouble with. Therefore trying to come up with accommodations that I may need for a job as a counselor or therapist has been difficult. How do I disclose accommodations I may need but also come across as being able to do the job? I am very new with all of this so any feedback or input would be appreciated! Also how do you discern what is a reasonable accommodation?

At the present time I can read most everything and enter most everything, the sole exception is a portion of the psychiatrist's reports that identifies the current diagnosis. I'm guessing that I can read this with the virtual reader feature of Window-Eyes, perhaps JAWS has a similar feature. But, without a screen reader most of the screens are a mess of poorly connected bits, some read and some not.

Were you then able to use all aspects of the software or was it only the most essential features needed for your employment? Were you able to read history, case notes, assessments, appointment scheduling.... and were you able to not only read but insert information as needed? Thanks in advance.
