There's nothing wrong with red. It is my favorite color! There are more subtle shades though then teenagers like. LOL you're lucky to have some help. Most of the time I have 70+-year-old neighbor guy who helps may shop. I can get interesting! His wife had polio so he is used to doing things guys usually don't.
