[humanser] Scanned articles that are sideways

Hi, Ginny,

I don't know if JAWS Convenient OCR has this feature, but you might have
luck with Kurzweil.

Kurzweil has a "virtual printer," which means it prints PDFs or other
documents on the screen; then you can use it to read text. I know that
if I have a paper document and I put it on the scanner sideways,
Kurzweil will scan it.

I do not know if this will work for sure. But if you have Kurzweil,
here's what you do: from wherever you are on the screen, press
control-print. You will hear a list of printers available to you. Select
the kesi virtual printer. Then tab through the options to the "OK"
button, and click that. Kurzweil will begin scanning pages and will let
you know, with a very nice Big Ben-sounding chime, that it's done. Then
you can read it or cut and paste it into a Word document or whatever you
want. The nice thing about this is you don't have to go into Kurzweil;
you just select the printer from the list, and it reads the list aloud
to you.

Please let me know how this works, or if it doesn't. If questions,
please contact me off list. (I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer
when it comes to computers.)

Take care. I also know that you can set your screen to read sideways --
I did it by accident once. Perhaps you could have the screen display and
read sideways when you need it that way, then switch back. I don't,
however, know where that setting is located in Windows. Let me know if
you need more info about this and I'll ask my brother, who is totally
blind and a pretty good tech.

Does anyone have any ideas how to deal with that short of getting back to the sender? The last time I had this problem , the sender could not figure out how to resolved it. Maybe it has to do with the machine they are using??

In working with VR, some degrees they automatically view the field as a program in which a graduate degree is necessary. I have found that if I provided good justification and letters from professionals who provided justifiable reasons for the additional schooling, that Vr would be supportive. I attend Peabody College of Vanderbilt, an Ivy school with a very competitive HOD Clinical Counseling program. I was one of 23 accepted into the program last year. I think what helped me was establishing a good relationship with my counselor and providing several reverences from credible resources as to the need to continue my education. I hope that things work out for you and your situation!

What were some unforeseen situations you encountered? What techniques did you use to be successful in your interviewing and site placement? Any insight and input would be greatly appreciated.
