The NHCGNE Leadership Conference is interprofessional in nature, with social workers, psychologists, doctors and more as speakers and attendees. Take advantage of this event to meet more professionals in geriatrics, and in related fields, who you can stay connected with and possibly collaborate with in the future.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to have a discussion with the Administrator of HRSA. Hear firsthand what is going on at HRSA and participate in the Q&A session!

The GW Center for Aging, Health and Humanities will sponsor registration for two attendees of the  2019 NHCGNE Leadership Conference. If you are interested in attending, please contact Melissa Batchelor-Murphy at mbmurphy at gwu.edu<mailto:mbmurphy at gwu.edu?subject=> by July 1, 2019.
Note, this conference will be held two days prior to the start of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) conference. Conference registration to GSA is not included.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

  *   Raise awareness of opportunities to participate in NIH FOA initiatives supporting persons with dementia (PWD).
  *   Strengthen participants knowledge of rigorous design, execution, analysis and reporting of quality data supporting non-pharmacological interventions for diverse PWD populations.
  *   Assist early career attendees in orchestrating full research careers in aging through mentoring by senior scientists.

HRSA works to fill in the health care gaps for people who are uninsured, isolated or medically vulnerable. The agency uses its $9.6 billion annual budget (FY 2011) to expand access to quality health care in partnership with health care providers and health professions training programs.

With backgrounds in psychiatric and primary care, Gilliss’ research has examined the impact of behavior on the recognition and management of illness. Her work currently focuses on the family as a complex system and its response to and role in shaping the course of chronic illness. For her research efforts, she received the 2007 Distinguished Contribution to Family Nursing Research Award.
