I am a licensed master social worker in Virginia trying to become an LCSW.About 95% of the job vacancies that provide clinical experience needed to become license require a drivers license that I can't get because of my visual impairment.I am ten employers for reasonable accommodations to waive the driving requirementand allow me to hire a taxi or uber and all ten turned me down. As a result, I had to earn hours toward licensure through volunteering. However, nearly all the non-profits here stopped using volunteers in March 2020 at the start of pandemic. As a result, I did not finish my supervision hours within four years, and I lost the 3,000 clinical hours I completed due to the four year time limit. I asked the board of social work for a reasonable modification of its four year limit under Title II of the ADA, but so far they turned me down. The NFB legal team says that they will only get involved if its a problem that's impacting many people. They asked me to sned this post to find out if the time limit and driving requirements are a problem for other people seeking a social work license. Please respond if you have had simialr problemsto michaelbeattie at yahoo.com
