Hello Amanda,
That is great news you have a part time job!
Congratulations and hope this goes well!
I have an interest in working with people whether directly or indirectly by
doing case management.
I will soon look for a job as an activity assistant or program assistant in
a human service nonprofit and hope to get somewhere this time. Before the
pandemic, I did not have much success.
I cannot think of books to recommend directly about suicide management.
Here are several books that talk about people differences like personality
differences and how
To use communication and conflict resolution strategies.
Maybe reading excerpts of these books might give you some insight into
managing crisis and very difficult situations.
The first five are about conflict resolution, leadership, and communication
skills. The second five are more about dealing with personal anxiety and
worry; some are self help books.
I studied communication and had many psychology classes in college and that
is where I read these books; sometimes I used a human reader for research
and reading these books, used library ebooks, also read via Learning Ally
books,
and other times I used scholarly online databases to read chapters of books
in html text electronically.
Several suggested books come from my research.
Tim Flanagan wrote many books and delivers programs on teamwork, conflict
management, and communication skills.
Other authors are good too, but I remember his books well about conflict
management; books were easy to understand for me and gave examples of the
techniques. It was great to have something understandable as an
undergraduate since many books were so scientific based with lots of jargon.
William Ury's books are informative but also easier reading as well in my
opinion.
The titles are bold and I labeled them by category.
Here they are.

Subject: [HumanSer] Suicide counselling books
Hello
Hello everyone,
I have been offered a part-time job at a suicide and crisis intervention
line. I was wondering if there are any good books to read in preparation for
the job even though there will be training covering the topics before I
start.
Just want to be very prepared.
I look forward to your advice and recommendations.Amanda
