Hi Everyone,
I am hoping to take my LCSW exam by the end of 2026. I am curious to hear from those of you who have recently taken this exam. What study materials did you find helpful and accessible? I am also aware of the upcoming changes to the exam as I prepare and recognize that there will be variations from the current exam by the time I take it.
I have access to a digital copy of the fifth edition of Dawn Apgar’s LCSW exam prep guide from: www.vitalsource.com. I also currently have access to the free version of the pocket prep app. There are various YouTube channels that I have subscribed to. I am also aware of therapist development center and another paid program of which I can’t think of the name off the top of my head. I want to make wise investments financially as I prepare. While my employer has professional development funding available, I will be allocating mine in the next fiscal year towards assisting in finishing my supervision hours. As such, I will be undertaking the financial responsibility of my exam costs.
I would also like to hear from those of you who have recently taken this exam regarding reasonable accommodations and the timing process. The reasonable accommodations I am considering are a quiet room, extended time, the presence of my Seeing Eye dog (I’m specifically thinking of considering her break needs as applicable)), and the use of JAWS. Is there anything I should consider or be aware of regarding these accommodations or other accommodations I should consider in addition to these?
While last I checked we had a testing center in my local area, I have not observed them to be timely or knowledgeable in their communication around accommodation needs. While I recognize that these accommodations are requested and approved through ASWB, it would be helpful if the testing center would actually respond to general inquiries and/or address questions around their familiarity with implementing these reasonable accommodations. As such, I am prepared to travel to take my exam in order to find a more reliable testing center location.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Take care, Miranda
