Friends,
Though this is off-topic, I believe this is an appropriate forum because it
will reach so many of you so quickly. I have received emails, text
messages, and phone calls from many of you checking on me in light of the
Washington, DC train crash. I wanted to assure everyone that I am OK.
So far, nine people have been confirmed dead and another 79 have been
injured. I did have friends and coworkers on the train, but so far their
injuries are minor.
The accident occurred on the Metro Red Line, which is my usual line. I
had plans with friends, so I definitely would have been on the Red Line near
the accident location at the time of the crash. However, at the last
minute, as I walked into the subway station, I ealized that I wasn't up to
socializing and desperately needed a ladies room, and the commute via train
would have taken too long. I also had this overwhelming urge for Twizzlers.
So I left the subway station and hailed a taxi to take me to Union Station
instead of the Red Line to Silver Spring as planned. And so I avoided
having anything to do with the accident. I think it was God's intervention that
made my bladder so urgent and my craving for Twizzlers so overwhelming.
My boss was on the second train, as were two friends from college.
Luckily their injuries are minor, cuts, scrapes, and broken bones.
Thank you, my Federation family, for your thoughts, prayers, and good
wishes. It means more than I can say that so many of you care so much.
Yours,
Ronza
