Subject: [Nfbnet-members-list] Comment on New Proposed Department of Transportation Regulations Concerning Accessibility

Dear Fellow Federationists,

As you may have heard, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has taken an important step toward improving air travel for blind passengers.  After years of advocacy by the National Federation of the Blind, DOT released a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking on September 26 proposing updates to the Air Carrier Access Act that would require airline Web sites and automated airport kiosks to be accessible to the blind.  DOT is seeking feedback on the proposal, which can be found at http://regulationroom.org/air-travel-accessibility/agency-documents/snprm/ .  We are urging everyone to comment.  As an organization, the NFB will be submitting formal comments using the Federal e‑rulemaking portal, www.regulations.gov <http://www.regulations.gov/> .  However, regulations.gov is not fully accessible, making it difficult for members to submit individual comments.  For this reason, we ask you to submit your individual comments (a template is attached to help you format your comments and provide you with some suggested talking points) to airlines at nfb.org by December 31, 2011.  Please include your mailing address in the email.  A staff person at the NFB headquarters will submit each individual comment to the docket on regulations.gov before they are due on January 9.  To request NFB’s official comments or ask questions about the proposed rules, please send an e-mail to airlines at nfb.org.
