*Why Communications?*

* *

According to one recent study, on average, Americans spend 3.9 hours per
day watching television and 3.8 hours online outside of work. As Americans
with disabilities know, we are often left out of the storyline, portrayed
in a negative light, and our issues bypassed on the evening news. AAPD
hopes to transform the public dialogue surrounding people with disabilities
by taking advantage of this medium. In an effort to reintroduce disability
to the storyline, AAPD has founded the NBCUniversal Tony Coelho Media
Scholarship Fund to ensure more people with disabilities who are interested
in entering a media-related field receive the education necessary to launch
successful careers. These rising stars may one day move into positions of
influence, where they can help shape public discourse and change hearts and
minds.  ****

If you require any additional information or would like to know more about
AAPD, please feel free to email scholarship at aapd.com. ****
