Joyce Marie Brown (nee Mudgett), 74, resident of Streamwood, Illinois for 45 years, passed 

away on 24 July 2014, from complications of ALS.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, 1 August 2014 at Immanuel UCC, the church 

Joyce was a member of for twenty years, in Streamwood, IL. The Rev. Jeanne Murawski of 

Immanuel will be officiating. The family will be hosting a meet and greet for mourners starting 

at 5:00 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. The address of Immanuel is 1500 Old Church Road,

Burial will be private. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Countryside Funeral Home.

Joyce was born in Gouverneur, NY on 14 June 1940; she was the oldest of six siblings. She 

graduated from Clifton Fine High School in June 1958.

Joyce was married to Wayne Brown on 28 March 1964; they were married 50 years.

Joyce volunteered as an elementary school aide for school district U-46 for 10 years and school 

district 54 for another 10 years. She enjoyed gardening and travel. For those lucky enough to 

have tasted them, she made the best fudge and chocolate chip cookies around. She visited 

all 50 of the United States in her travels and many foreign lands too, including Germany, 

Switzerland, Austria, Mexico and the US territory Puerto Rico. Joyce served for over 20 years as 

a judge of election in Cook County. She was also actively involved in the St. Alexius sponsored 

Silver Threads sewing ministry.

Joyce is survived by spouse Wayne, 3 children Brian (Jacqueline), Carol (James) & Lynne (Kevin), 

6 grandchildren Rose, Kelli, R.J., Amanda, Mathew & Summer, 1 great grandchild Leo, her 

brother David and 4 sisters Mary Lou, Amy, Dilys & Kay, and other family and friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her father Irving Mudgett and her mother Dilys Mudgett.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Les Turner ALS Foundation

to thank all the people who helped in her final illness: her extended family, Tyler, Evie, Lauri & 

Journey Care Hospice of Barrington to name a few.
