Yesterday I mailed out packets of prizes to all of the K-12 students who
took part in the 2016 LOL Squared (Land of Lincoln and Land of Lakes)
Braille Readers Are Leaders Contest, a combined initiative of the NFB of
Illinois and the NFB of Minnesota. Each packet contained a 2016 Braille
calendar, a slate and stylus with instructions in Braille and print, a
Braille wristband with the words "Braille is cool," and a bookmark with the
Braille inscription, "LOL 2 Braille Readers Are Leaders." In addition, the
first-place winner in the kindergarten-grade 1 category received a Braille
coloring book with tactile pictures. The first-place winners in each of the
other grade categories received a 2016 Braille calendar with tactile
pictures on each page that trace the history of the automobile. 

 

The winners in each category also have been  sent cash prizes. The
first-place winners in each category received a prize of $25. Second-place
winners won $15, and third-place winners won $10. Thank you to all of you
whose fundraising and contributions help us encourage more kids to read
Braille!
