On Tuesday, Aira announced a new initiative to help combat the high unemployment rate in the blind and low vision community. 

On Tuesday, Aira announced a new initiative to help combat the high unemployment rate in the blind and low vision community. To help support job seekers who are blind or low vision currently seeking employment, Aira is committed to providing free service through our new Aira Employment Program.

Starting on Tuesday, February 20, any minutes spent performing job-search related tasks, including navigating to employment sites, filling out applications, building resumes, and traveling to and from meetings with prospective employers, will not be deducted from your regular plan minutes. For the first 100 Aira Explorers to secure job interviews, your ride to or from the job interview will also be covered via our partnership with Lyft.

Tuesday’s announcement event in San Diego featured presentations by Kirk Adams, President and CEO of The American Foundation for the Blind, and Mark Riccobono, President and CEO of the National Federation of the Blind, as well as San Diego City Councilmember Barbara Bry. Sassy Outwater-Wright, Director of the Massachusetts Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired, spoke about the value of Aira from her perspective as an employee, and as an employer. Aira’s CEO, Suman Kanuganti and VP of Customer Experience, Amy Bernal, both represented Aira at the event, unveiling the details of the new employment initiative.
