Subject: Current Rear Door Boarding Bus Signage

Good Morning:

I hope everyone is well.

I wanted to provide a bit more detail related to CTA's current Bus Boarding
Policy.

Please see the attached document regarding the signage posted on every CTA
bus. I am sending it in 2 formats. The PDF version is what appears at the
front of every bus. I have included a Text Only version which describes in
words the images found on the PDF sign for anyone unable to access the PDF
doc.

The CTA has ongoing training for Operators to ensure that they appropriately
service and support customers with visible, as well as invisible
disabilities. This includes making sure any customer who needs to board in
the front and use the ramp or have the bus kneel receives the appropriate
accommodation.

This is done if the Operator sees someone who uses a wheelchair, mobility
device, etc., or who requests use of the ramp or for the bus to kneel.
Individuals are NOT required to explain why they are requesting the bus to
kneel or for use of the ramp. Any customers able to use the rear door for
boarding or alighting are asked to do so. Also note that other
accommodations such as securing a wheelchair upon request, making all stop
announcements, etc., are still in place.

Any customer who has an issue related to boarding or alighting a bus should
report the incident as soon as possible. All reports are followed-up on and
Operators are both disciplined and retrained as appropriate.

To report an incident, please provide as much information as possible such
as:

*	Day and date of incident.
*	Time of incident.
*	Bus route, which is a 1, 2 or 3 digit number such as; Route #20
Madison, #22 Clark, #J-14, #151 Sheridan, etc.
*	Where you got on and/or off the bus. (Streets and direction of
travel).
*	If able, provide the 4-Digit Bus ID # (large printed number above
and a bit to the right of the Operator or Braille/tactile number on a panel
behind the Operator or to the right and inside of the rear door).
*	If able, provide the Operator's ID number (5 digit number which
should be on the right sleeve of their uniform).

The information you provide will assist the CTA in identifying the specific
bus that you were on, as well as the Bus Operator. There are many cameras
inside and outside of the bus and they are used to assist in identifying and
resolving customer complaints.

You should know that the CTA and ADA Unit are working daily to ensure that
complaints receive follow-up, and that training is ongoing. Your assistance
in reporting issues helps us provide service that accommodates the needs of
all customers with and without disabilities.

I also want to acknowledge and thank Access Living, American Council of the
Blind, American Foundation for the Blind, Autistic Self Advocacy Network,
Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, National Association of the
Deaf, Rooted in Rights and The Arc of the United States who were involved in
producing the well thought out "Implementing New Covid-19 Policies for
People with Disabilities" document.

Thank you and stay safe and well.
