August Illinois at Large Chapter Meeting Notes
Meeting is called to order on August 2, 2020 at 7:10 PM. People in
attendance are Barbara Chedekel, John Holtgreve, Cathy Randall,
Marilyn Green, Denise Avant, Ellen Bartelt, Sabrina Kimbro, Jenna
Deupree, Bill Reif, Debbie Pittman, Linda Hendle, Danny Mandrell,
Natalie Shaheen, Yvonne Agyarko, Brigid Burke, Charlene Elder, Ken
Schad, Eileen Truschke, Halley Richmond, and Jemal Powell. The date of
the rookie roundup was incorrect in the June notes. It took place on
July 7, instead of July 9. The June notes are approved by the members.
Marilyn led everyone in the NFB Pledge.
National Presidential Report: Over 10000 people attended the virtual
convention this summer. Recordings from the national convention will
be put on nfb.org/convention when they become available. Twenty nine
resolutions were brought to the convention floor. Twenty eight of them
passed by the members. One that is very important is resolution
2020-5, which discusses state agencies. There will be a meeting for
people who want to become members on August 9. The 2021 national
convention will take place from July 6 to July 11 in New Orleans. The
national board will be making a decision when it gets closer to the
convention if it can take place in person. Walmart is being sued for
not having accessible self-checkouts. If you want to tell your story
you can contact Valorie Yingling at vyingling at nfb.org.
State Presidential Report: The face to face board meeting will take
place through zoom on August 29, at 9:00 A.M. The state Convention
will take place through zoom from October 30, to November 1. Pam Allen
will be the national rep. The students have not been assigned a NABS
rep yet, but they are working on it. The feme for the state convention
will be posted to iltalk very soon. An email will be coming out soon
about how to donate for door prizes for state convention.
Programing: The members discussed what they liked about the virtual
convention. Many people liked the NFB choir. People said it was very
easy to axes zoom and it was helpful that the national office sent
out updated emails when there were changes. Many members think in the
future the convention should be in person and virtually together. Many
of the members would like to go over the 28 resolutions that passed on
the convention floor. Members want to understand what they mean, and
how they will affect blind people around the United States.
New and Old Business: Members discussed starting a fundraising
committee for the at large chapter. Some members are having problems
with Walmart and receiving shopper assistants. Marilyn told members
who are having problems with Walmart to reach out to Denise. Meeting
is adjourned at 8:44 PM.
Notes signed by Ellen Bartelt secretary.
