It's November! Lots of things going on this month - national election (be sure to get out and cast your vote), Veterans' Day, and Thanksgiving. Be sure to get out and enjoy this crispy, cool weather.

THIS MONTH'S MEETING

Our next chapter meeting will be held on Saturday, October 11, at 1:30 PM, at the South Moline Township Center - 637 17th Avenue in East Moline. The program this month will be a discussion of "what if." What if you were in a particular situation? What would you as a blind or visually impaired person do? What if you had to do a certain task. How would you do it? The meeting will be led by Lois Montgomery, and we would like everyone to participate in the "what if" discussion.

LAST MONTH IN REVIEW

At last month's meeting, we elected officers and board members for the coming year. The following people were elected : Bob Gardner, President; Lois Montgomery, Vice President; Donna Miles, Secretary; Kathy Abbott, Treasurer; and Patrick Olson, Jay Blanchard, and Don Carey were elected to the board. A big "THANK YOU" to our past slate of officers and to those who have agreed to serve for the coming year. We appreciate your willingness to serve.

Jay Blanchard is back from ICRE Woods. He, and his friend and new chapter member, Leah, told us about some of their experiences. We also had a NEWSLINE demonstration by Lois Montgomery.

MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE (Most dangerous chocolate cake recipe in the world!)

1 Coffee Mug

4 tablespoons flour (that's plain flour, not self-rising)

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons baking cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

   some nuts (optional)

   Small splash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well . Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate

chips and nuts (if using) and vanilla, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to share!)

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of

the day or night!
