Subject: [il-talk] CTA holds a meeting to discuss extension of Yellow Line
CTA Schedules Final Yellow Line Extension Meeting for April 304/15/2009
Chicago Transit Authority will hold the final public meeting to allow the
public an opportunity to provide input on the proposed extension of the
Yellow Line. The meeting is part of a federally required Alternatives
Analysis study. The meeting will be held:
Thursday, April 30
6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Niles North High School - Auditorium
9800 North Lawler Street
Skokie, IL
(location is accessible to people with disabilities)
The proposed extension of the Yellow Line would create better access for
customers who travel between the Yellow and Red lines. Service to major
destinations such as the Cook County Second Municipal District Courthouse,
Westfield Old Orchard Shopping Center as well as other office, retail and
residential developments would be enhanced by extending service beyond the
current CTA terminal on Dempster Street.
The Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) New Starts program requires
transit project proposals to proceed through a process of planning, design
and construction.
The FTA process consists of five formal steps: Alternatives Analysis,
Environmental Impact Statement, Preliminary Engineering, Final Design and
Construction. The Alternatives Analysis study is designed to examine all the
transit options available and determine a locally preferred alternative.
