I apologize for sending out a message in my tiredness last night naming my
daughter as Abby Gardner. Her married name is Abby Weatherington.
I've learned that due to HIPA, it's difficult to get medical info in a
hospital. Nurses and hospital staff will tell you next to nothing, and you
have to get info directly from the doctor.
This morning, Nancy and I did get to talk to the doctor. I think maybe I
understand what's happened in the last twenty-four hours. Maybe. I
believe the problem was Abby went into labor with a septic infection. I also
believe this didn't affect her till maybe a day or two before she went to the
hospital. A doctor's exam three days before revealed nothing. The septic
infection affected the baby and led to the catastrophic results.
After the emergency C-section, Abby faced the trauma of child delivery,
major surgery, hemorrhaging, and an elevated temperature due to the
infection. Many, many problems, and things were touch and go yesterday afternoon.
This morning, the doctor said Abby was stabilized, that she was young and
strong. But the doctor said several times Abby "is not out of the woods."
The doctor explained several dramatically different ways people die from
septic infections.
In general, Abby is doing much better than yesterday. She seems stronger,
her color is better, and she sounds good. She was moved out of ICU this
afternoon, but she may be in the hospital till Friday.
We know everyone feels a need to do something to help or show support for
Abby and Brian. Nancy and I, however, think people should consider the
need to visit Abby in the hospital, or whether it would be better to give her
as much rest there as possible. She has been through so much. The choice
is really yours, but remember there will be opportunities to show our
support for Abby and Brian in the coming weeks.
Please keep praying for Abby and Brian.
Bob
