[il-talk] When to keep an employer in the dark about your blindness

I have been reading about the Recruitor recently who was hired by a firm and after having already begun work, was discriminantly fired and denied payment for services rendered due to being low vision and unable to drive once the employer learned of her handicap. For many of us, our condition of vision is obvious to any person who would notice, but for others, we may perform many roles in life without our difference of sight being apparent to most people. When that is the case, when do you think a person should make known their blindness (particularly in a business environment).
As for me, i would be cautious, but if i felt it would present a danger or that i would be unable to in any way perform a task, i would discuss it.
Unfortunately i wouldn't want to volunteer that information if not necessary because not only would i be more likely to find discrimination, but if it is known very early on, it would be easier for another to discriminate indetectibly.
It also depends on the character of the person or people i would be working with; that is, whether they would treat me fairly or use that knowledge against me.
So what do you think?
