THIS MONTH'S MEETING

Our meeting will be held on Saturday, March 13th at 1:30PM, at the South Moline Township Center at 637 17th Avenue in East Moline.

The meeting this month will feature a presentation by Becky Passman, Iowa QC Transit Coordinator of the Bi-state Regional Commission. Becky will talk about the public bus system on the Iowa side of the Quad-Cities with particular emphasis on the new "Loop," a bus route that loops around cities on both sides of the river in the evening. The loop bus route allows people to visit various restaurants and other night spots in Moline, Bettendorf, Davenport, and Rock Island using public transportation. Now, even the blind and visually impaired are empowered to enjoy the nightlife!

LAST MONTH'S MEETING

Lois Montgomery and Bob Gardner talked about their participation in the Washington Seminar, an event that brings NFB members from all over the country to Washington D.C. to meet their legislators. Lois and Bob were among nine people representing the NFB of Illinois. Those attending the Washington Seminar discussed three issues important to the blind community with members of Congress. The Illinois delegation arranged appointments with all nineteen congressmen and both senators on February 2nd and 3rd.

UPCOMING EVENTS

April 10: The NFBI will hold a day-long Parents Seminar aimed at the parents of blind children. The event will take place at the Holiday Inn O'Hare in Chicago. Contact Bob Gardner for further details.

May 8: We will have our chapter meeting at Bennigan's Restaurant in downtown Rock Island. We will have lunch, all selecting their meal off the menu (and paying for it themselves). We will also have a short business meeting. As in the past, those interested in practicing their mobility skills will ride the bus from Center Station in Moline to Rock Island, then walk a block to the restaurant.

June 12: We will have our annual potluck/picnic at the home of the Gardner's in Hampton. As usual, besides great food and fellowship, we will talk about the long white cane used for mobility, and we will do some walking around beautiful, downtown Hampton. Stay tuned for further details.

July 3-8: NFB National Convention in Dallas, Texas. If you are interested in attending, contact Bob Gardner for further details. It's not too early to make hotel reservations.
