    2010 White Cane Banquet

0 To 60 in 70-Years

The National Federation of the Blind of Nebraska (NFBN) Omaha Chapter

will be hosting our annual White Cane Banquet on November 6, 2010 at

Anthony?s Steakhouse, 7220 F Street, from 5:15 PM to 9:30 PM. The

pre-registration price per ticket is $35.00, and $45.00 per ticket if

registered after October 31, 2010, and seating will be limited this

year. Registration begins at 5:15 PM along with a cash bar, and dinner

will follow at 6:30 PM. Our guest speaker this year will be Sahar

Husseini. The NFB has spent the last seventy-years changing what it

means to be blind through innovative programs, progressive legislation

and ground breaking technology. As the NFB prepares to debut the car for

the blind on January 29, 2011 as a part of the Blind Driver Challenge,

Sahar will encourage the community to continue pushing for equal

opportunity and access for the blind for another seventy years to come.

Born in Jerusalem, Sahar transplanted to America in 1989 seeking

opportunities not afforded her in her native country. Determined to be

an active, productive member of society, Sahar attended San Diego State

University where she obtained a B.A. and M.A. in Social Work. In 1997,

Sahar moved to Alaska working as a computer and technology instructor

for the Alaska Center for the Blind. To cope with the isolation of the

Alaskan wilderness, Sahar began creating jewelry which has developed

into a lucrative side business. In 2001, Sahar found herself teaching

technology classes at the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually

Impaired, but in 2007, she switched to teaching Braille, her true

passion. Sahar is living proof that obstacles are not a reason to give

up. Join us as we learn about a woman who refused to be defined by her

disability, creating a life that has affected many.
