Job Announcement:

The National Federation of the Blind of Illinois Inc. (“NFBI”) is seeking to hire two Teachers of the Visually Impaired (“TVIs”) or Orientation and Mobility (“O&M”) Instructors to work as independent contractors in our Braille Enrichment and Literacy for Learning (“BELL”) Program for 2013.  A Coordinating  Teacher and a Teacher will be hired.    For more information about BELL go to www.nfb.org/bell.

Our Bell Programs include Braille and O&M instruction as well as  Daily Living Skills Instruction.  We will plan field trips to build independent travel skills and confidence.    Our students attend a two-week long day program.

Pay:  		Lead Teacher/Coordinator $2,500.00
		Teacher $1,500.00

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Both the Lead Teacher and the Teacher must possess a BA  in special education which concentrates on teaching visually impaired and blind students or a college degree in orientation and mobility.   Must have proficiency in Grade II Braille.  Ideal candidates will be licensed in Illinois .

JOB Descriptions:

Coordinating Teacher

SCOPE OF SERVICES Lead/Coordinating Teacher
CONTRACTOR will perform duties as assigned by the President of the NFB of Illinois  
Duties of CONTRACTOR will be: 
Participate in one weekend of training in Baltimore in the month of February. 
Participate in preliminary planning meetings (via phone).
Develop additional content and curriculum related to the BELL program, which can be added to the core BELL curriculum and also placed on the NFB Education Station for professionals in the field.   Core curriculum is already available. 
Travel to program site in Chicago for two weeks to serve as a lead teacher for the site’s program. 
Provide instruction for approximately 10 children  from third through 9th grade with the assistance of a TVI or O&M specialist and volunteers from NFBI.
Report regularly to NFBI President and to NFB national office.
Support post-program reporting and evaluation efforts. 
CONTRACTOR shall keep such records and make reports as required by the President.

CONTRACTOR will perform duties as assigned by the President of the NFB of Illinois  
Duties of CONTRACTOR will be: 
Participate in preliminary planning meetings (via phone).
Travel to program site in Chicago for two weeks to serve as a teacher for the site’s program under the supervision of a lead teacher and with assistance from NFBI volunteers.
Provide instruction for approximately 10 children  from third through 9th grade under the supervision of the lead teacher.  
Report regularly to NFBI President and to NFB national office.
