Who is giving the class? I know out in Socal, one of our chapter members had
CPR training with the Redcross. They might have some suggestions on how it
was done. I don't have Shelly's email, but, I will try to call her and see
what she did. I believe she had the training about five years ago.

Subject: [il-talk] CPR & First Aid training

Later this week I'll be attending a DPR and emergency first aid training
class at my kids' preschool. To be sure, I'll be the only blind member of
the class. I don't anticipate any problems in learning the material or
following along in the class; however, in reviewing some of the training
manuals prior to the class, I'm wondering if anyone knows to recommend any
good resources for blind and visually impaired first responders? It occurs
to me that a lot of the standard techniques and procedures spelled out in
the manual are of a visual nature ... e.g., "Look to see if the person is
making the choking sign," "Note if the person is turning blue in the
face"Open the mouth and look to see if there is a piece of food obstructing
the airway," "Note if the eyes appear dilated or unfocused," etc. Of course
we can all devise some nonvisual adaptations with a bit of ingenuity and
common sense. But does anyone know of any resources or manuals that have
been devised for the blind community by authorities who have actually taken
the time to consider these matters at length?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew
