South Korean smartphone maker Samsung has announced a mid-range Android smartphone with several accessibility options for the visually impaired. The Galaxy Core Advance features several physical keys offering easy access to frequently used features such as the voice recorder, camera, volume, menu, home nd power functions, Samsung said on its official blog. A feature Samsung has dubbed Optical Scan can automatically recognize text from an image and read it aloud to disabled and visually impaired users. The Core Advance will also include Light Sensing technology that will use the phone's camera to sense light direction and brightness, Samsung said. Text-to-speech and voice guided camera functions will help visually impaired users take photos by announcing the number of faces detected and their location. The Core Advance, with a 4.7-inch display, a 1.2GHz processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2,000mAh battery will be available early in 2014 in two color options, Deep Blue and Pearl White, Samsung said.
