January 2013
Inside NBP
January is National Braille Literacy Month! To celebrate National Braille Literacy Month and Louis Braille's 204th birthday, National Braille Press launched its first blog, called Inside NBP on January 4, 2013. Each week, we'll feature stories, musings, and information on the braille code and its continued importance in the digital age, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at National Braille Press. We want this blog to be an open forum, so please follow our postings and share your thoughts and questions. Visit Inside NBP »
CES: Accessibility in Surprising Places
This month, the Consumer Electronics Association hosted over 3,000 exhibitors and 150,000 consumers at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Recently, CES began providing sighted guides to assist blind and visually impaired consumers as they navigate this incredible technology show.
Mike May, President and CEO of The Sendero Group, attended this year. "It was fun to find accessibility in surprising places, like the apps the manufacturers had no idea would work with VoiceOver with their products." Read Mike's Blog »
A Perfect 'Pear'
This year's NBP braille Valentine is a treat for all the senses! This card features a pair of pears - each with a small red valentine heart - and the message "We're a pair, Valentine!" in print and braille. We also added something special this year - a mouth-watering, scratch and sniff, pear scent! Valentine's Day is only a month away, so order your print/braille Valentines before they are gone.
