Subject: Blind person needed for performance

Howdy. A performance artist is looking for a local blind person to collaborate for an upcoming show. The person should be blind since birth and doesn't have to be an actor.

Anyone interested should contact the producer below.

Sounds like fun.

Cheers,

Mike Ervin

======================================

Minouk Lim will be making a new Firecliff performance, Firecliff 4, which is scheduled for Friday, February 1 at the Logan Center, and it will be part of the IN>TIME festival happening throughout the month. Here is a link to Minouk’s site showing images and details from a previous performance from this series: http://www.minouklim.com/index.php?/works/firecliff-2seoul/

Lim’s work stretches between performance, media art (she documents the performances and creates her signature video-based work from the original event), and more recently sculpture & installation. She doesn’t have a background in performance and often invites non-performers/non-actors to perform in her works.

For this new project, Lim is seeking a blind person, ideally a female, and it is important that they be blind from birth, i.e. blindness is a condition & experience they have had their whole life. The performance is about perception and our ability to experience the world in the absence of vision. Lim was inspired by a text by Diderot called “Letter on the Blind,” which I’ve found here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/51743868/Diderot-Letter-on-the-Blind
Diderot was interested by the condition of sightlessness and wrote a text essentially exploring the subject, which was later considered highly heretical because at the time, developing an understanding of form via sight/vision was considered a moral imperative. (More on this if necessary)

Lim would like to identify a blind individual who she can meet and have a conversation with about their experience in the world, perceptual or otherwise, from which they might together develop the content of the performance (dialogue, a particular reading/text, etc.). The performance will feature this person moving through a darkened space, interacting at times with audience members, and possibly reciting text or singing.

Key Details:
-Time commitment will vary: 1-2 in-person meetings or conversations at Lim’s studio, 1-2 rehearsals at the studio, 1-2 rehearsals at the Logan Center, performance on 2/1 at 7-8pm. *A more complete/accurate schedule can be determined at the first meeting with the artist.
-No professional training in performance, acting, singing, etc. but a willingness to do so (potentially contradictory, I know!)
-Open-minded and enthusiastic person who is up for an interesting adventure!

Let me know if there is anything else you think would be helpful to include in this. I hope this sounds exciting and appealing to someone. Minouk would like to have a first in-person meeting as soon as possible to prepare for the performance, I’m guessing early next week Mon-Tues.

Thank you so much for working on this.

Best,

Megha
