[il-talk] JAWS and Windows 8

Andrew,
Keyboard commands can control all aspects of Windows 8, like in
Windows 7 and XP. JAWS does not currently support the touch screen
functionality of Windows 8, as do nearly all of the touch screens
produced in the last five years. As a blind person though, you
probably would use the keyboard navigation nearly all of the time,
even if the touch screen feature were functional with JAWS or another
screen reader. Free third party software that is easily obtainable
can suppress the weird Windows 8 start screen and land the end user on
the desktop like normal. I call up my neighborhood computer nerd to
deal with this messy business and keep my technology running well. I
am certain you can find someone similar in your community.
I am going slow on Windows 8 because many companies have not updated
their drivers for peripheral hardware.
